| Beth Andrews has been teaching for over 23 years in the Irvine Unified School District in Orange County, California. She teaches middle school math at Sierra Vista Middle School and also serves as the district's GATE Coordinator. She has presented at numerous conferences, including California Association for the Gifted (CAG), It's Elementary Conference, California Math Council (CMC), California Teachers Association (CTA), and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). The concept of Star Voyagers was developed to meet the needs of the capable mathematician. The program incorporates 36 weeks of material in an exciting simulation that kids love. Weekly homework reinforces material presented in class and monthly tests assess students' mastery of the basic math skills. The graph here compares individual student's Stanford 9 scores before and after using Star Voyagers. As you can see, the highly capable mathematician raised his/her total math percentage, but more importantly, the struggling mathematician experienced a dramatic overall increase in their score. With results like this, it is no surprise that Star Voyagers is presently being used by over 1000 teachers throughout California. |
